Consumer interest for plug-in hybrid vehicles soars

8 September 2009

Hybrid plug-in vehicles are set to become the next big product on the market after consumer interest in environmentally friendly transport soared.

In a new study ‘Electric Vehicle Consumer Survey’, released by Pike Research, the promise of an improved fuel economy over standard internal combustion engines and the reduction of carbon emissions has led to a rise in consumer interest.

Showings find that 48 per cent of those surveyed would be extremely or very interested in purchasing a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with a 40-mile range on a single charge.

‘Plug-in hybrids match the driving requirements of most consumers we surveyed,’ said managing director Clint Wheelock. ‘82 per cent of respondents drive 40 miles or less per day, with an average daily driving distance of 27 miles.’

Other key findings showed 85 per cent of consumers felt that improved fuel efficiency would play an important role when choosing their next vehicle. In turn, 65 per cent of respondents said they would be willing to pay a premium price above that of a standard gasoline vehicle if they were guaranteed a more environmentally-friendly vehicle.

Consumers also indicated that the availability of workplace, private and public vehicle charging stations in their local area would be very important, with 79 per cent interested in investing in a fast-charging outlet for their home.

The report surveyed 1,041 US consumers. The report includes a detailed analysis of consumer demand and willingness to pay for PHEVs and their associated vehicle charging infrastructure.

All these news are nice to see and hear. But where are good plug-in cars? I am looking to buy a few such cars. But not available at all.

    EER and EE – labels

EER – Energy Equivalent Return means to be able as a producer, distributor or consumer to return the energy equivalent of any product to its right source by its right quality and quantity.
EER might concern the energy equivalent of your car, your flat, your breakfast and many other products around but EER might concern your job too.

The basic problem of economy now becomes production-consumption balance or number of jobs to number of consumers.
Many would like to create jobs and to increase the consumption but to create jobs at any price should not be a good idea in regard of current economy stage.

Presently we have a business-born industry and economy that’s why when we speak about jobs and consumers we mean business related jobs and business related consumers.

After start speaking on EER what do you think about EER-born car? And what about EER-born jobs and EER-born consumers?

It would be proud of every brand producer to provoke its customers and to set an EE – label on every new car showing energy equivalent used in its production.

There are two ignition goals with EER: to keep advantages of developed companies against the developing ones and to double the number of work places worldwide.

I am glad the see this idea being pushed, with the advances in electric vechicles, this is the one nich in which we in the U.S. could dominate.

I hope to see more electric motorcycles, along with the automobiles! The 2 wheel market is huge every where in the world and it should be here in the U.S. too, if we had the right company to offer the right product(s).
