Mary Rosenthal, executive director of non-profit trade association Algal Biomass Organization (ABO) has appeared in front of the US Congress to testify on the benefits of algal biofuels. Japanese technology company Kyocera reports 81 half year per cent profit slump

Kyocera, a Japanese producer of solar cells and electronic devices, reported an 80.7 per cent drop in profits for the first half of this year despite drastic cost-cutting measures. Net income fell to ¥8.73bn ($96m) from ¥45.2bn ($496m). Sales declined 27 per cent from ¥658.7bn ($7.23bn) to ¥483.9bn ($5.31bn).

US energy company Pinnacle West reports improved third quarter results

South Western US energy company Pinnacle West has reported increased revenues for the third quarter of 2009, with net income reaching $186.7m. The company, which counts Solar company Suncor and renewable energy solutions company APS Energy Services among its subsidiaries, attributed the strong results to record August temperatures in Arizona, lower operational costs, and better fuel prices.
