Energy efficiency the key to US green economy, according to McKinsey report

30 July 2009

The US economy has the potential to reduce annual non-transportation energy consumption by roughly 23 per cent by 2020, eliminating more than $1.2tn in waste – well beyond the $520bn upfront investment (not including programme costs) that would be required, according to a new report from McKinsey & Company.

The reduction in energy use would also result in the abatement of 1.1 gigatons of greenhouse gas emissions annually – the equivalent of taking the entire U.S. fleet of passenger vehicles and light trucks off the roads.
The report says that such energy savings will be possible, however, only if the US can overcome significant sets of barriers, which will require an integrated set of solutions to overcome them, including information and education, incentives and financing, codes and standards, and deployment resources well beyond current levels.

    America on the move
    goes faster than others
    pioneers carried guns
    but no air conditionning
    and U-turn to green
    doesn’t fit with greed
    but as did say Granma
    one don’t play with food

  2. John Gocek says:

Sofame Technologies (TSX-V:SDW) gas been recovering waste heat from flue gases for 25 years, and is still struggling to increase market penetration. The products have won numerous engineering prizes. Why won’t more companies look at investing in proven energy efficiency technologies now?
