Justin Adams is Vice President Strategy and Ventures in BP’s Alternative Energy division. In this role he is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of Alternative Energy, and its constituent businesses, and aligning with the BP Group’s overall long term strategy. MORE »
His team are also responsible for monitoring development in the cleantech sector as a whole to identify material threats and opportunities for the wider Group. The Ventures portfolio comprises BP’s corporate venturing and carbon offsets businesses as well as the technology management function for Alternative Energy.

Mr Adams has spent the last 12 years working on innovation and investment in the cleantech sector, building bridges between energy industry incumbents, policymakers and entrepreneurial start-ups. He serves on the Board of a number of cleantech and carbon companies in the US and Europe including Mendel Biotechnology, Synthetic Genomics, South Pole Carbon Asset Management and E Stack Ltd.

Mr Adams joined BP plc. in 2003 as Director of Long Term Technology working for the Chief Scientist. He led the development of the Group's Long Term Technology Strategy laying out a strategic roadmap to 2030 and supported the initial set up of several of the businesses within Alternative Energy including Biofuels, Carbon Management and Clean Coal.
Gert AnderssonGert Andersson

Gert Andersson, with his mechanical and electrical engineering educational background from Chalmers University of Technology, was employed by ASEA (now ASEA Brown Boveri, ABB) in 1971 for it marine automation systems. MORE »
Soon he was sent to Houston Texas on a three-year assignment to investigate the offshore oil exploration technology needs and to introduce the ASEA products and systems on the worldwide market. He then became country manager for ASEA in Korea, a position he held until 1988. The Korean market for mass transit signal, power supply and propulsion systems were handled successfully penetrated.

Mr Andersson was then transferred to the Florida High Speed Rail Corporation which later was abandoned due to project finance difficulties. His further assignment went to Hong Kong, being responsible for the Asia market within ABB Daimler Benz Transportation, nowadays Bombardier. The main work was to identify realistic mass transit projects and to establish the company strategic issues in the region.

Since 1998, he has devoted his time to invent and to develop the Nowait Transit continuous mass transit system

Mr. Beaty also founded and currently serves as Chairman of Pan American Silver Corp., one of the worlds leading silver producers. Mr. Beaty has founded and divested a number of other public mineral resource companies since 1985.

Mr. Beaty is a past President of the Silver Institute in Washington, DC., a Fellow of the Geological Association of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Mining, and a recipient of the Institute's Past President's Memorial Medal. In 2007 Mr. Beaty received the Association of Mineral Exploration of B.C.’s Colin Spence Award for excellence in global mineral exploration, in 2008 the Mining Person of the Year award from the Mining Association of B.C. and the 2008 Natural Resources & Energy Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Ernst & Young.

Mr. Beaty was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1951 and educated at the Royal School of Mines, University of London, England, M.Sc., Distinction (Mineral Exploration) 1975 and the University of British Columbia, LL.B. (Law) 1979 and B.Sc. (Honours Geology) 1974. He is married with five children. Mr. Beaty speaks English, French, and Spanish, as well as some Russian, German, and Italian. He has worked in more than 50 countries during his career.

Prior to that, Chaudron led investments in the sectors of IT and semiconductors. Between 2001 and 2005, he was also a board member of Siriatech and Vizelia, two start-ups pioneering cleantech in France.

Before joining AGF Private Equity, Chaudron started his career in venture capital at Europatweb, the internet investment company founded by Bernard Arnault in the late 90s.

Nicolas Chaudron is an alumnus of the Ecole normale supérieure (Paris, France) and of the Peking University (Beijing, China). He holds an MSc in mathematics, an MBA from the CDI, and an MBA from the Wharton School.

Mr. Coit has been active in the renewable energy industry since working for the United States Solar Energy Research Institute (now the National Renewable Energy Laboratory) in the late 1970's and holds degrees from the University of Rochester (B.A. with distinction) and Cornell Law School (J.D., magna cum laude).

Prior to Precede, Rafi was co-founder, co-CEO, and Chairman of Chromatis Networks, a company he started in 1997 to develop optical equipment for the telecommunications market. Chromatis was sold to Lucent in May 2000 for $4.75 billion.

Prior to founding Chromatis, Rafi served as Chairman of Scorpio Communications Ltd. and President of Scorpio Communications Inc., which he founded in 1993. Scorpio was sold to US Robotics in 1996 for $72 million. Following the acquisition, Rafi developed US Robotics’ strategy in the telecom market.

Rafi also served as an associate director of the Center for Telecommunications Research (CTR) at Columbia University, where he managed telecommunications research projects. Prior to the Carbon Trust, Paul was at Rolls‐ Royce where he initially worked in Transmission and Distribution in the UK and then for Rolls‐Royce International in Thailand carrying out business development activities. Paul then joined Rolls‐Royce Power Ventures as Development Manager focusing on project development of 5MW to 150MW gas turbine and diesel engine power projects in the UK and Americas.

Paul graduated from Newcastle University in 1996 with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (Europe), with Spanish as chosen language. In 2002 he completed an MBA at INSEAD, Paris.

The bulk of his career has been focused on the industrial technologies and environmental and industrial services sectors.

Mr. Lavelle came to Houlihan Lokey from The Nassau Group, a corporate strategy and M&A advisory firm that he founded and successfully managed for more than 12 years. His clients include numerous North American, European and Asian public and private companies, ranging from emerging growth-oriented businesses to established middle-market leaders to multibillion-dollar global enterprises. His assignments have ranged from integrated strategic advisory and/or proactive buyside mandates for large, strategic acquirers, to financial restructurings for financial sponsors, to exclusive sellside projects. He has also managed several private placements.

Before establishing Nassau, Mr. Lavelle spent five years at Baring Brothers & Co. in New York and London. Earlier, he was at Booz Allen & Hamilton, where his fields of expertise were international M&A advice and business strategy development.

Mr. Lavelle graduated cum laude with an A.B. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He is registered with FINRA (formerly the NASD) as a General Securities Principal (Series 7, 24 and 63).

Tom Murley heads the renewable energy team at HgCapital and is responsible for HgCapital Renewable Power Partners, a €300m fund for European renewable power projects.  The team consists of seven investment professionals and has made investments in ten wind farms, four biogas facilities and four project developers. Tom joined HgCapital in 2004 and has more than 15 years' experience in providing equity finance to the US and European conventional and renewable power sectors. He was formerly with EIF Group, established in 1987 by John Hancock as the first private equity fund manager for renewable and conventional power generation. Previously he was general counsel of Alternative Energy / Beaverwood Power, a biomass power developer and operator.

Tom is active in both the energy and institutional investor sectors. He is the Chairman of the British Venture Capital Association Committee on Sustainable Energy, Environment and Technologies and is a frequent speaker at renewable energy conferences. He was recently named by Dow Jones “Wealth Bulletin” as one of 40 people providing financial and thought leadership to the European renewable and clean-tech sector.

He has degrees from Northwestern University and Fordham University School of Law.

Among other initiatives, he has designed and partially implemented Gamesa’s entry strategy into several European and Asian markets.

Prior to joining Gamesa, Pablo worked in Spain as a consultant in the Strategy Division of Accenture where he belonged to the Capital Goods practice. During that period, numerous projects with Spanish Construction Conglomerates seeking international expansion and/or diversification into Renewable Energies were implemented.

He holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering (ICAI, University of Comillas) and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration (IESE Business School).
Rory O'ConnorRory O'Connor

Rory joined NTR in February 2004 and currently serves as Group Treasurer and Head of Corporate Finance. Rory has played a key role in NTR’s development during this time including NTR’s investment program in renewable energy and sustainable waste management, and also the $2.7bn Airtricity value realization transactions and NTR’s €488m monetization of its Westlink toll road asset.

Prior to joining NTR Rory served as Director, Strategic Planning, Elan Corporation plc where he had a key role in Elan’s $4.5bn debt structuring program in addition to a number of other strategic and corporate finance initiatives. Rudolf joined Siemens Venture Capital from Infineon Technologies AG where he was part of the management of a $700 million division. He established the ‘Identification' business unit, focusing on security electronics (e.g. ePassports) and RFID technologies, and was able to grow the business from $5 million to $260 million annual revenue and profitability.

Prior to that, Rudolf was a founding team member and Managing Director of Infineon Ventures, Infineon's venture capital arm. He held various board and board observer roles. His investment track record includes Formfactor (NASDAQ: FORM), Saifun (acquired by Spansion), LightLogic (acquired by Intel) and Broadbus (acquired by Motorola). Previously, he gained consulting experience with McKinsey & Co. in Munich and with the Mitchell Madison Group in London, UK.

Rudolf received a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, and a Master's in Strategic Management from Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) in Paris, France. He also studied economics at the University of Oxford, UK.

Will is a board member of EUROSIF, the Responsible Investment Academy of Australia, and UKSiF’s Sustainable Pensions Advisory Board. Prior to taking up his current post, Will founded CRG Advisory Services, a private consultancy practice advising a range of clients, companies and investors on Corporate Responsibility practices as well as contributing to the development of the global responsible investment market. Prior to establishing his consultancy practice, Will was a Director at FTSE Group, responsible for its global strategy and marketing programmes. While at FTSE, Will worked on a range of projects that underpinned the success and expansion of the Group, including establishing FTSE Americas, the company’s first overseas business operation. Before his New York appointment, Will served as Director of global sales based in London.

Earlier in his career, he worked in the London Stock Exchange (LSE) Indices Unit, where he was Head of Commercial Management. Before this, Will also spent five years in the derivatives industry, specialising in the marketing and promotion of traded options while working with the LSE’s subsidiary, the London Traded Options Market.


Will holds a BSc in Zoology from the University of Wales and a Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) Diploma from the Guildhall University in London.

In February 2008, Fintan co-founded Mainstream Renewable Power where he is Corporate Finance Director. Fintan spent eight years as Corporate Finance Manager for Airtricity, where right from the first project, he was involved in raising more than €1bn in project and corporate debt to fund the company’s development and build programme. He was responsible for designing new structures for the company’s evolving requirements, negotiated facilities in the banking and investor communities and diversified funding sources particularly for the critical area of non-government contracts. His responsibilities covered all markets in which Airtricity was active, including Europe, Offshore, the US and China.

Fintan qualified with a Commerce degree from University College Dublin in 1978, he is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA) and in 1996 got an MBS in Finance from UCD’s Smurfit School. Before joining Airtricity, Fintan was Chief Accountant and later Finance Manager with Prudential’s business in Ireland and was with Ernst & Young Consulting for three years, specialising in the area of financial management and modelling in Financial Services.
