While governments around the world implement legislation to encourage the use of renewable energy, one sector still continues to divide public opinion: biofuels. With the need to couple increasing energy demand with a slash in greenhouse gas emissions, the use of biofuel has continued to gain momentum, in particular biodiesel. However, fears that it could result in mass deforestation and pose a threat to crop supply for poverty-stricken countries has led to calls for its abandonment.
