The UK has a legally binding obligation to derive 20 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020, which means delivering an almost a seven-fold increase in the share of renewables in little over a decade. Dr Ralph Rayner, sector director, energy and environment at consultancy BMT Group says although developments in clean energy span a number of technologies, little of marine energy's potential has been fully realised.
