Helius Energy awards contracts for 7.5MW biomass plant

Helius Energy has entered into a full suite of construction contracts for its 7.2MW biomass project in Scotland, after it closed financing of the project earlier this week.

The combined heat and power biomass project in Morayshire, which is being developed by joint venture company CoRDe.

Key contracts, with a value of more than £44m have been awarded to Fitchner Consulting Engineers, Aalborg Energie Technik, Robertson Northern and Wellman Process Engineering.

While Fitchner will act as the lead engineers, Aalborg will carry out the design, supply, erection and commissioning of the plant.

Robertson Northern will undertake civil works and provide the underlying infrastructure. Lastly, Wellman is set to provide evaporation equipment, which will enable the production of Pot Ale Syrup.

The project will create about 100 jobs during construction and employ around 20 people full-time once operational.

In addition to the contracts being awarded, electricity and associated renewable benefits will be sold to utility npower under a power purchase agreement.
