Monsanto acquires Aly Participacoes to boost sugarcane capabilities

In the face of long-term changes driving greater global demand for food and biofuel sources, biotechnology company Monsanto Company is to invest in a new sugarcane crop to diversify its existing core crop portfolio and has agreed to acquire Aly Participacoes for $290m. The company operates the sugarcane breeding and technology companies CanaVialis and Alellyx.
