Australian clean generation company AGL Energy has acquired the development rights to the Silverton Wind Farm, an onshore project that could be up to 1GW in size, for an undisclosed price.
AGL will initially install 300MW of turbines at the News South Wales location, with the option to add more to create what could become the world’s largest wind farm.
The company said it will look to commence construction on the first phase next year.
Michael Fraser, managing director of AGL, said, ‘This transaction demonstrates AGL’s ongoing commitment to developing Australia’s leading privately owned portfolio of renewable energy assets, in which we have invested $3bn over the past five years.’
