UNS subsidiaries solicit wind energy projects

4 Jul 2011

UniSource Energy Corporation (UNS) subsidiaries Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and UniSource Energy Services (UES) have submitted a joint request for Arizona-based wind energy project proposals.

These projects could produce up to 50MW of renewable energy.

UNS claims, ‘Sustainability is more than a buzzword – it’s a core value.’ In line with this statement, both of its subsidiaries are taking measures to integrate wind resources into their renewable energy portfolios.

TEP has agreed to purchase Element Power’s 50MW Macho Springs Wind Farm and UES is set to buy Western Wind Energy’s 10MW wind farm. Both systems should begin commercial operation in the third quarter of this year.

Accion Group has served as the independent monitor for the companies’ previous renewable energy RFPs and will again conduct the process for their most recent Arizona wind energy RFP.
