Eon warns European renewable policy threatens energy security

Germany's biggest utility, Eon, is shutting nearly 13GW of plant capacity and has proposed halving its dividend to €0.60 per share blaming the surge in European renewable energy production that has wrong-footed utilities across the continent – making many conventional fossil-fuelled thermal plants redundant and leading to a collapse in wholesale power prices.
