Geraint Jones, CEO of International Business Wales (IBW), quite obviously knows little of renewable and alternative forms of power production.
Incineration does not destroy household waste, on the contrary, it transforms it into emissions into the environment and converts household waste to hazardous waste. The use of organic waste as a fuel for electrical power generation through 'burn', processes is being termed as a ‘renewable’ process. This is a gross attempt to twist scientific facts to suit vested interests. The fact that waste incineration leads to global warming is acknowledged in the Kyoto Protocol itself where it is listed as one of the sources of greenhouse gases.
What is being ignored is that waste to energy projects based on burn technologies directly conflict with the ethos of the Kyoto Protocol, which has been already ratified by both the UK government and the EU.
I suggest that Mr Jones should not make rash and uninformed statements. He should look at the hundreds of cases of non-conformity of air pollution guidlines globally by this company, and also the long term cost of the proposed project. (As a businessman I wonder if he is prepared to meet the future 'hidden' and as yet undisclosed cost of dubious advice.)
The people in the surrounding communities will be asked to pay for this lack of knowledge with their health, their wealth and the destruction of their environment, as has already been witnessed in much smaller developments in many parts of the United States, Canada and India to name but a few.
