Indian state of Gujarat plans tidal energy project

The Indian State of Gujarat, under the leadership of its Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, has taken the first step in its plan to become a world leader in tidal energy. Engineers start UK Wave Hub drilling operation

Work on the Wave Hub marine energy project has begun in Cornwall, UK. Wave Hub will create the world's largest test site for wave energy technology by building a grid-connected socket on the seabed, ten miles off the coast, to which wave power devices can be connected and their performance evaluated.

Pulse Tidal receives €8m EU grant to develop commercial tidal energy system

UK tidal power company Pulse Tidal is to receive a grant of €8m from the EU's technology research and development fund, Framework Programme 7, to enable the company to begin work immediately on developing its first fully commercial tidal energy generator. The 1MW generator will be commissioned in 2012 and will provide electricity for up to 1,000 homes, the company said.
