Chinese solar company Chint Solar has closed a $50m round of fundraising led by Chinese venture capital firm Cybernaut and investment company Shanghai Alliance Investment Limited. A number of oversees and domestic funds made up the rest of the syndicate.

Texan-based petroleum refiner Valero Energy Corporation has made the first investment in Terrabon's current round of equity financing. Terrabone is a Texan developer of environmentally-friendly gasoline from landfill waste and will use the funding to accelerate commercial deployment of its technology that converts biomass into ‘green gasoline.'

Californian venture capital firm Velocity Venture Capital has promoted Farid Dibachi and Henry Montgomery to general partner, according to reports. The firm, which focuses on investments in the cleantech, life sciences, software and internet sectors, has also held a first close on its third fund, which has a target of $60m.

A new £500,000 fund has been launched in the UK to help environmental entrepreneurs and small businesses develop their ideas to generate electricity from the River Severn's tidal power. The Canadian province of Ontario is creating a new fund to drive start-up investment in green technology companies. Starting in July, the Emerging Technologies Fund will invest CAN$250m dollars over five years together with qualified venture capital funds and private sector investors.
