Indonesian state banks invest $80m in geothermal plant

Three Indonesian state banks have put forward a syndicated loan of $80m to fund the construction of PT Geo Dipa Energy's geothermal plant in West Java. Bank Negara Indonesia will lead the syndicate which will include PT Bank Mandiri and PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia.

Obama Administration announces $3.2bn in funding for local energy efficiency improvements

US Vice President Joe Biden and Energy Secretary Steven Chu have announced plans to invest $3.2bn in energy efficiency and conservation projects in US cities, counties, states, territories, and Native American tribes. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant programme, funded by President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will provide formula grants for projects that reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency nationwide, the DOE said.

US biofuels company AE Biofuels, Inc., has signed a strategic agreement with Merrick & Company to commercially implement AE Biofuels' enzyme-based technology for the conversion of non-food biomass into ethanol and other materials through the design of new biofuels facilities or the conversion of existing biofuels facilities. Merrick provides engineering and architectural design-build, procurement and construction management services.

Siemens Energy takes stake in Italian solar company Archimede Solar Energy

Siemens Energy is to acquire a 28 percent stake in Italian solar company Archimede Solar Energy. ASE produces solar receivers, while Siemens manufacturers steam turbine-generators for solar thermal power plants. By combining these two technologies Siemens wants to enhance the efficiency of these plants and further reduce the production costs for solar power, according to a statement. The two companies did not disclose the purchase price of the shares.
