Welsh research project seeks to develop biofuel from grass

Welsh scientists are working on a research project to turn grass into a green transport fuel. Biofuels development company KL Energy Corp. has received $4m of additional capital. The funding round was led by previous investors Niton Capital and The Green Fund, who together originally invested $6.1m in October 2008, and also Warcoing Sucre and Pierre de Boeck.

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras to invest $2.8bn in biofuels

Brazilian oil company Petrobras is to invest $2.4bn in biodiesel and ethanol production for the 2009-2013 period, 91 per cent of which to be made in Brazil. This amount is part of the total of $2.8bn Petrobras earmarked for the biofuels business, which also foresees expenditures of $400m in infrastructure, such as ethanol pipelines. The total resources represent an 87 per cent increase compared to the previous business plan, the company said.
