Dynamotive receives additional biofuel order

Dynamotive Energy Systems, a Canadian producer of biomass-to-biofuel products has received an order for an additional nine shipments of its BioOil product from an existing US client. The order is an extension of an 18 shipment deal signed with the client earlier this year. The value of the extension if $130,000, with total order value to date standing at $390,000.

Trade association director testifies to US congress on algal biofuel benefitsp

Mary Rosenthal, executive director of non-profit trade association Algal Biomass Organization (ABO) has appeared in front of the US Congress to testify on the benefits of algal biofuels. Rosenthal argued for the commercial scalability and range of fuels, including ethanol, biodiesel and biojet that can be derived from algae, and outlined steps that Congress could take to ensure parity for the algae with other next generation feedstocks.

Townsend Oil introduces enhanced BioPure clean fuel

Boston fuel and energy company Townsend Oil & Propane has produced a new clean-burning fuel. The fuel improves the fuel economy of heating systems by three to four per cent and reduces smoke and soot emissions, the company said.

North Carolina State University awarded $2m for algae biofuel research

North Carolina State University has been awarded a $2m grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for its researchers to produce fuel from algae that does not deplete freshwater supplies and can be cultivated in places that don't compete with traditional food crops.

Hawaiian Electric chooses Renewable Energy Group to supply biodiesel to test new plant

Energy utility Hawaiian Electric Company has signed a contract with a subsidiary of Iowa, US-based Renewable Energy Group to supply 400,000 gallons of biodiesel to be used to conduct biodiesel operational testing and collect additional emissions data for the new Campbell Industrial Park Generating Unit.

Renewable fuels provider New Generation Biofuels Holdings Inc has signed a letter of intent with Ace Biofuels of San Juan, Puerto Rico to license product formulations, manufacturing technology and know-how from NGBF with the intent of constructing a biofuel manufacturing facility and marketing NGBF biofuel in Puerto Rico.

Massachusetts-based biomass company Qteros and Israel's Applied CleanTechnology (ACT) have announced the development of a process to turn wastewater into car fuel. The process marries Qteros' microbe-eating cellulose technology with ACT's wastewater solid recycling solutions to turn municipal and agricultural waste liquids into ethanol.

OriginOil completes first phase of biofuel development agreement with Idaho National Laboratory

Biofuel developer OriginOil has completed the first phase of a cooperative research and development agreement with the US Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory. The company previously developed technology that would transform algae into a renewable oil source that would compete with petroleum.

Aviation giant Boeing is to join with aerospace company Honeywell to commission a study on the sustainability of saltwater-based plant candidates for renewable jet fuel. The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi will lead the study.

Renewable fuel producer Sustainable Oils has secured a contract to supply the US Air Force with 100,000 gallons of camelina-based jet fuel by December 2012.
