Legislation has been put in place to encourage alternative fuels, but the potentially significant biolubricant opportunity has been slower to progress. 
A provider of biomass heat and power solutions has completed a round of fundraising with investment from The North West Fund for Energy and Environmental and the Environmental Infrastructure Development Company. 
Canadian clean generation company Mustas Energy has contracted Lockheed Martin to support the construction of a 41.5MW biomass plant.

US biofuel and biomass producer Enviva has been contracted by E.ON to supply 240,000 tonnes of wood pellet per year as part of a multi-year contract.

The European biomass market is booming with a strong appetite for a consistent flow of feedstock, which has prompted young cleantech company Africa Renewables to tap into this supply opportunity. 
UK cleantech consultancy Natural Power has been contracted to conduct feasibility studies into three biomass systems for a brewery in Glasgow, an ice cream manufacturer in Aberdeenshire and a new diary farm-based system at a college in Dumfries.
