Indian renewable energy generation company Orient Green Power has raised $55m in its third round of funding, led by investment management firm Olympus Capital Holdings Asia, which is investing $35m. Brazilian renewable energy company Vital Renewable Energy Company has secured funding from private investors in the US, Europe and the Middle East, and is ready to launch renewable energy projects in Brazil, focused mainly on ethanol and electricity generation. The funding, which will exceed $1bn, according to the company, was completed by an international consortium of investors led Paladin Capital Group.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded a $1.75m grant to Professor David Wu of the University of Rochester, to investigate a way to turn waste biomass, such as grass clippings, cornstalks, and wood chips, into usable hydrogen or ethanol.
