London, UK-headquartered Africa Renewables will look to spend the first €5m of the €30m funding it is raising to get its first project in Ghana off the ground.
Japanese trading giant Itochu has taken an equity stake in the Gainesville Renewable Energy Centre in Florida, US. The investment amount was undisclosed and the whole project is expected to cost $500m. 
Spanish pulp and biomass group Grupo Empresarial Ence will look to close a further €80m in financing by the end of the year to progress the build of a renewable energy project in Spain. 
Seventeen small businesses and community groups in the US are to benefit from $3m in funding that the US Department of Agriculture has made available to advance wood-to-energy projects.

Four year-old biomass cogeneration plant developer Agnion Energy has garnered venture capital backing to advance its gasification technology. Financial details of the fundraising were not disclosed.
