Publicly traded Nevada energy company Bergamo Acquisition Corp has received a $1bn sovereign guarantee from the government of Pakistan, pertaining to the development of a 544MW clean coal plant and a series of solar projects, to be developed by subsidiary Bergama E & A. Under the terms of the agreement, the Pakistani government guarantees payment of the energy produced by the projects.

The UK has released its Low Carbon Transition Plan to plot out how it will meet the cut in emissions set out in the budget of 34 per cent on 1990 levels by 2020. US Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu has announced that projects by Basin Electric Power Cooperative and Hydrogen Energy International have been selected for up to $408m in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The two projects selected - an existing power plant in North Dakota and a new facility in California - will incorporate advanced technologies to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
