The investment opportunities in the offshore wind sector are ‘immense’ even though utility balance sheets and state lending organisations are not providing enough funding for European targets to be met, according to ratings agency Standard & Poor’s.

UK environmental specialist SLR Consulting has announced fiscal 2011 revenue of £83.3m, ending 31 October, which is a 24 per cent increase on 2010. 
US community-focussed renewable developer Juhl Wind made a net loss of $414,000 in the first quarter, compared to a $2.8m profit in the same period last year. 
UK environmental infrastructure investor Impax Asset Management has recorded a first half revenue of £9.2m, slightly down on the £9.9m achieved in the same period last year. 
German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex has made a €14m first quarter loss, compared to a €1.8m loss in the same period last year. 
US company SPI Solar made a $300,000 net loss in the first quarter, an improvement of the $1.9m loss made in the same period last year. 
US solar company the Spire has recorded a first quarter net income of $3.4m, turning around last year’s loss of $1.5m. 
With quarterly results flooding, listed companies in the cleantech world has proven to be a mixed bag. 
Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer ReneSola has recorded a first quarter operating loss of $37.8m. 
Danish utility Dong has recorded first quarter revenue worth DKK1.6bn ($278m) from its wind and hydroelectric divisions. 
Photovoltaic manufacturer Canadian Solar made a $200,000 loss in the first quarter, compared to a $2.4m profit in the preceding three months and $17.2m loss in the same period last year. 
Spanish wind energy company Gamesa made a first quarter net loss of €21m, despite sales rising by a third to €777m. 
US cleantech company Ormat Technologies has recorded a first quarter net income of $8m, compared to an $8m net loss in the same period last year. 
US biofuels company Solazyme made a first quarter net GAAP loss of $16.8m, an increase on the same period last year, when the figure was $7.3m. 
Spanish cleantech giant Abengoa achieved revenue of €1.76bn in the first quarter of 2012, an 18 per cent increase on the same period last year. 
US photovoltaic manufacturer SunPower has made a GAAP net loss of $74.5m in the first quarter of 2012, a slight improvement on the previous quarter's loss of $93m. 
Bioenergy company China New Energy has recorded revenue of RMB179m for 2011, a 29 per cent increase compared to 2010 when the figure was RMB138.4m. 
Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer LDK Solar made a net loss of $558 in the fourth quarter ending 31 December 2011, compared to a third quarter net loss of $114.5m and $145m profit in the same period of 2010. 
French company Solairedirect saw consolidated net profit rise 113.9 per cent in 20111 to €19.3m. 
US community project developer Juhl Wind achieved a net income of $3m in 2011, a significant improvement on the preceding year when the company made a loss of $12.8m. 
The China Ming Yang Wind Power Group saw a 58.8 per cent decrease in profit for 2011 to RMB993m ($157.8m)
