Danish wind energy company Vestas recorded revenue of €5.8bn in 2011, significantly below the original forecast of €7bn and less than preliminary figures released in January, causing CFO and deputy CEO Henrik Nørremark to resign. 
The announcement from Danish wind energy giant Vestas that it is to cut its workforce by at least 2,300 was an ominous way for the sector to start the new year. 
Vestas’ announcement scaling down its revenue forecast and the decision by Norway’s Renewable Energy Corporation to prolong its factory shutdown were discouraging New Year signs for European cleantech. 
Danish wind energy giant Vestas saw its share value drop by more than €2 as it cut its revenue and profit forecast in yesterday’s preliminary financial results. 
Danish wind energy giant Vestas has released preliminary financial figures for 2011 showing an order intake of 7.4GW of turbines, worth around €7.3bn. 
US-based First Solar has upgraded its 2011 financial guidance and is now predicting net sales in the range of $2.8bn to $2.9bn, compared to the original forecast of $3bn to $3.3bn. 
US marine energy developer Ocean Power Technologies made a second quarter operating loss of $3.9m, an improvement on the same three months last year when the figure was $5.5m. 
UK environmentally-focussed investment manager the Impax Asset Management Group has recorded a 36 per cent revenue rise to £20.9m so far this year. 
Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer Yingli has recorded a third quarter net loss of RMB180.5m ($22.4m), compared to a second quarter profit of RMB375.6m($59m) and a RMB556.6m ($88m) income in the same period last year. 
Chinese solar photovoltaic company Suntech has recorded a third quarter loss of $116.4m, an improvement on the $259.5m loss of the second quarter but down significantly on the $33.1m profit made in the same period last year. 
Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer JinkoSolar made a non-GAAP net loss of RMB 247.9m ($38.9m) in the third quarter of 2011, after having made a second quarter income of RMB286.5m ($45m) in the previous three months and positive RMB259.5m ($41m) in the third quarter 2010. 
Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer LDK Solar has recorded third quarter net sales of $471.9m, down slightly on the $499.4m loss made in the second quarter and significantly lower compared with the same period last year when the figure was $675.6m. 
Solar photovoltaic manufacturer China Sunergy has recorded third quarter revenue of $145.8m, a 1.3 per cent increase over the second quarter and a 15.9 per cent rise on the same period last year. 
Germany-based photovoltaic specialist SolarWorld posted a €238m revenue in the third quarter, 30 per cent down on the same period in 2010 when the figure was €342m. 
Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer JinkoSolar has updated its guidelines for the quarter ending on 30 September with shipments and revenue expected to be slightly lower than previously forecast. 
US biofuel developer KiOR made a net loss of $14.8m in the third quarter of 2011, compared to a $10.6m loss in the same period last year. 
US power technology specialist the American Superconductor Company recorded revenue of $20.8m for the second quarter of fiscal 2011, down significantly compared to $98.1m in the same period last year but an improvement on the first quarter’s $9.1m.
Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer Suntech has announced preliminary financial results for the third quarter with shipments during the period expected to be up 15 per cent on the second quarter. 
Ditlev Engel, president and CEO of Danish wind energy company Vestas, made an announcement to staff this morning informing them of a plan to reduce fixed costs by at least an annual €150m by the end of 2012. 
US photovoltaic company SunPower has announced third quarter revenue of $705m, an almost 20 per cent increase compared to the second quarter's result of $592m and also up on the same period last year when the figure was $550m.
