US energy monitoring and management company OutSmart Power Systems, has raised$2m in seed funding round, led by private investment manager Bainco, angel investment group The Clean Energy Venture Group and energy management company Manifold Products. US President Barack Obama has proposed a new fuel economy standard for the US auto industry, improving the energy efficiency of all US automobiles to 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016, an increase of more than eight miles per gallon per vehicle. This will result in projected reduction in oil consumption of approximately 1.8 billion barrels, or, in the President's words, ‘more oil than we imported last year from Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Libya, and Nigeria combined.'

UK alloys manufacturer Metalysis has raised a further £5.1m to scale up its energy efficient production process. The new funding comes from venture capital firm Environmental Technologies Fund along with private equity firm 3i, early-stage investor Chord Capital, private investment company Seven Spires Investments and Cody Gate Ventures. In addition to providing working capital it will primarily be used to support the scale-up of a novel semi-continuous pilot plant, the company said.
