The AIB Seed Capital Fund, managed by Dublin Business Innovation Centre, has led an investment into Red-T, a developer of flow battery technology. 
Swedish energy company Vattenfall has commenced research on a project that uses a hybrid power plant to convert wind energy into hydrogen, which can then be used to generate electricity and also as fuel for cars. 
With its broad sectoral focus, global private equity firm The Riverside Company has built a reputation as one of the most active investors in the lower mid-market. Alongside a historic interest in sectors such as healthcare and communications, the firm is looking to build its presence as a clean energy investor, as the increase in activity and opportunities there makes it hard to ignore, according to Evelyne White, cleantech specialist at the firm. 
Energy efficiency is becoming an increasingly significant aspect in the cleantech revolution and UK government programme the Green Deal, set to come into force next year, will catalyse this market even more.

US battery specialist Contour Energy Systems has raised $20m through Series C fundraising with Singapore-based global fund EDBI acting as lead investor. 
Energy storage and smart grid developer Clean Urban Energy has appointed Steve Schaefer as senior vice president of corporate development. 
The world’s first solar thermal facility with integrated storage capacity has been officially opened in Spain.
