European photovoltaic manufacturers must specialise their offerings if they are to withstand competition from Asia, according to an expert at one German solar producer. 
The US will invest $120m over the next three years to enable the roll-out of innovative materials that dramatically increase the energy efficiency of industrial facilities. 
US President Barack Obama has launched the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership, which includes a $120m investment in energy conservation.

Air Liquide, a specialist producer of gases needed in the production of photovoltaic cells, has signed an agreement to provide large quantities of gases to 3Sun, which intends produce solar panels in Sicily from 2011.
