US photovoltaic company First Solar announced net sales of $533m in the second quarter of 2011, a decrease of $34.5m from the first quarter and $55m compared with the same period in 2010. 
US solar wafer manufacturer MEMC and subsidiary SunEdison have reached a definitive agreement to acquire photovoltaic factory builder Fotowatio Renewable Ventures’ US division. 
While many in the industry are concerned as to the prospects for the UK solar industry following the government’s amendments to the feed-in tariff for renewable energy projects, the changes could lead to a boom in domestic and small scale solar power developments according to Lee Summers, director of UK renewable energy company EOS Energy.
