A US start-up focused on commercialising a semiconductor process that promises to increase the efficiency of solar systems has raised $6.88m of a $16m funding round. 
While BrightSource Energy has pulled its initial public offering in the US citing adverse market conditions, the public markets in Asia appear more open with one silicon specialist getting out the door in China. 
A US-based solar company which has recently undergone a major rebranding it to auction off intellectual property and production equipment as it shifts its strategy. 
Nasdaq-listed GT Solar has received a $93.9m order from Taiwan-based polysilicon producer Powertec Energy for a complete suite of polysilicon production equipment and technology.

Taiwan-based solar cell producer Neo Solar Power (NSP) has signed silicon and wafer supply contracts with two South Korea-headquartered companies, Osung LST and Hankook Silicon. 
US silicone specialist Dow Corning and German chemicals producer Wacker have opened a joint manufacturing site in Zhangjiagang, China as demand for silicone in the solar industry increases. 
Silicon technology company Dow Corning has signed a three-year contract with research group imec to perform joint research on crystalline silicon solar cells.
