An innovative smart grid pilot project is being pioneered in the US that will enable wind farms to communicate with the grid and household appliances, under a partnership between the Bonneville Power Administration and the third Mason County Public Utility District. 
US-based electricity and gas utility NSTAR Electric has announced that it will expand its ‘self-healing’ smart grid project powered by General Electric (GE) throughout its service territory to improve power reliability. 
The US smart grid sector is behind its European counterpart due to the lack of regulation enforcing its adoption, an industry expert told NewNet. 
The number of smart grid acquisitions in July slowed on June’s peak but maintained a high level showing the industry is still upbeat about its future growth, according to an executive brief from business intelligence provider Memoori.

The Singapore-based Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s (A*STAR) Experimental Power Grid Centre (EPGC) on Jurong Island has formed strategic partnerships with Rolls Royce, European wind developer Vestas, SP PowerGrid and CEI Contract Manufacturing to develop smart grid and distributed energy technology.
