Swiss electronics giant ABB and US low voltage specialist Thomas & Betts have agreed to a transaction through which ABB will acquire Thomas & Betts for $72 a share, or around $3.9bn. 
Japanese infrastructure giant Mitsui & Co has made a $12m equity investment into US smart grid project the Tres Amigas SuperStation. Mitsui will also participate in the venture.

Siemens Energy has partnered with Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian to erect HelWin 2, an underwater cable that will run between the North Sea offshore wind farm Amrumbank West and the mainland in Germany. The connection is scheduled to be operational by 2015.
