Smart grid company eMeter secures $32m in financing from Sequoia Capital and Foundation Capital

US smart grid software company eMeter Corporation has closed a $32m private financing led by venture capital investor Sequoia Capital and joined by existing investor, Foundation Capital. The funds will be used to accelerate eMeter's sales and marketing in new markets and continue investing in new products, the company said.

US smart energy company Advanced Telemetry closes Series B fundraising, led by Quercus Trust

Advanced Telemetry, a US developer of the smart energy and resource management systems has successfully closed its Series B investment round with funding lead by cleantech investor Quercus Trust and a co-investment from venture capital firm 21Ventures. Both Quercus Trust and 21Ventures were investors in Advanced Telemetry's Series A round.

Cleantech company Voltaix raises $9m, appoints industry veteran Reidar Langmo to its board of directors

Voltaix, a provider of materials that enhance the performance of semiconductor chips and solar cells, has closed a $9m investment from clean energy investor Novus Energy Partners. Voltaix will use the funds from the Novus investment to further develop its manufacturing capabilities to meet growing demand for thin film-based solar power and advanced CPU and DRAM products, the company said.

Kovio, Inc., a privately held pioneer in printed silicon electronics, has raised $20m in Series E financing, from its investors. These include Bessemer Venture Partners, Duff Ackerman & Goodrich Ventures, Flagship Ventures, Harris & Harris Group, Jerusalem Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Mitsui Ventures, Northgate Capital, Panasonic Venture Group, Pangaea Ventures, Pinnacle Ventures and Yasuda Enterprise Development.

Solar technology company SolFocus raises over $77m in Series C funding

SolFocus, a developer of Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) systems, has closed its Series C funding on $77.6m. The round was led by Apex Venture Partners, a Chicago-based venture firm focused on investments in companies with high potential for value creation in a variety of sectors including technology, software, IT infrastructure and telecommunications.

QuantaSol unveils 28.3 per cent efficient single-junction solar cell

QuantaSol, an independent designer and manufacturer of strain-balanced quantum-well solar cells, has developed what it believes to be the most efficient single junction solar cell ever manufactured. Developed in the last two years, QuantaSol's single-junction device has been independently tested by Fraunhofer ISE as achieving 28.3 per cent efficiency at greater than 500 suns.

French energy efficient technology company Tiempo has closed a €5m Series B financing round with two new investors, private equity firms Viveris Management and Oddo Private Equity.
