Spanish environmental services company Fomento de Construcciones y Contras has announced that it will build a motor oil recycling facility near Baltimore in Maryland, US. 
The UK needs to invest billions of pounds in its waste infrastructure over the next decade, according to a new parliamentary report. 
US company Covanta Energy has received notice to proceed from the Canadian regional municipalities of Durham and York in Ontario for the construction of a $250m energy-from-waste facility. 
UK engineering company Air Products has secured planning permission for a 49MW waste-to-energy generation site in Teesside, North East England. 
US waste-to-biofuel company Enerkem has closed on $30m of financing through a corporate equity investment worth $15.3m, with the remainder coming through corporate debt transactions. 
A UK-based recycling fund has delivered total returns in excess of 40 per cent and said it sees a strong pipeline of further investment opportunities in the waste and energy sectors. 
Japanese car manufacturer Honda has achieved a milestone of having ten plants in North America now operating with zero waste going to landfill, with the other four plants in the region functioning with ‘virtually zero’ waste going to landfill. 
Private equity fund the Acon Latin America Opportunities Fund has acquired Colombian waste management business Grupo Sala. 
European private equity investor Climate Change Capital Private Equity has led an €8m investment into French wastewater company Orege. Luxemburg-based cleantech private equity business Oraxys contributed €2m, with CPE making up the rest of the investment. 
The UK government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has launched a £10m fund to stimulate the creation of new anaerobic digestion plants. 
Waste management business Sterecycle may choose to list in Canada in the early part of 2012 rather than on a European exchange. 
Devon County Council has signed an agreement with French-company Viridor Waste Management to deliver a £45m energy from waste facility. 
Cornwall Council has granted planning permission for an energy from waste incinerator in the South West of the UK, designed by waste solutions company Sita. 
Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, the Spain-based parent company of the UK’s Waste Recycling Group, is to build a waste management plant under a new €322m contract.
The key issue in the waste management industry in coming years will be bringing the varying technologies together, an industry member said.
UK-headquartered waste management business Sterecycle is considering carrying out an initial public offering in 2011, a spokesperson for the company told NewNet.
Two offshoots of the London Green Fund, which was announced last year by the Mayor of London to help meet the UK capital’s low carbon targets, are expected to be established in the first few months of 2011. 
OSS, a UK-based recycler of waste lubricating and fuel oils that are reprocessed for use in power plants, is to be sold from its private equity owner Dunedin, according to reports.
