The third quarter of 2008 saw US venture capital investments in cleantech hit a record $1.6bn, up 55 per cent from the previous quarter, according to an Ernst & Young analysis based on data from Dow Jones VentureSource.

UK water requires infrastructure investment, says Environment Agency

Water companies in England and Wales must invest more in maintenance to improve the environment and reduce the risk of pollution incidents, according to the Environment Agency. A number of serious pollution incidents were caused by poorly maintained, overloaded or ageing sewerage infrastructure.

Brazilian National Development Bank commits $51m to hydro plants

The Brazilian National Development Bank (BNDES) has committed R$121.2m ($51m) to construct two small hydro power plants with a total capacity of 39 MW. The commitment was made to Rio PCH 1, a subsidiary of energy holding company Neoenergia Group.
