UN halts carbon credits for China wind farms

The United Nations organisation in charge of the management of carbon trading has suspended carbon credit approvals for over 50 Chinese wind farms. According the the Financial Times, suspicions have arisen that the rising superpower is manipulating industrial policy to take rake in over $1bn from the scheme.

Clipper to supply 67MW of wind turbines for Mexican project

California wind company Clipper Windpower is to supply 67MW worth of wind power to Mexico, backed by an $80.66m direct loan from the US Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im Bank). The export will be Clipper's first sale outside the US, and the first project financing agreement for a wind power transaction.

Constellation Energy to acquire 70MW Western Maryland wind project

Constellation Energy has signed an agreement with Clipper Windpower to acquire the Criterion wind project in Garrett County, in the US state of Maryland. The $140m, 70MW wind energy project would be developed, constructed, owned and operated by Constellation Energy. It is one of several clean energy initiatives Constellation Energy has recently completed or proposed across Maryland.

WindStream Technologies to develop Indiana production facility

WindStream Technologies, a wind power start-up based in Manhattan Beach, California, is to develop a new production facility in Indiana. The company, which manufactures small scale wind turbines called TurboMills, said that it will invest several million dollars in the new operations, expected to be finished by 2012.

EDF EN Canada announces framework agreement with REpower for 954MW of wind turbines

EDF Energies Nouvelles and RES Canada have signed a framework agreement with German turbine supplier REpower, covering the delivery of up to 954MW of wind generating capacity. The turbines are intended for five Québec wind projects being developed by Saint-Laurent Énergies, a Montréal based wind energy company jointly owned by the consortium of EDF EN Canada, Hydroméga Services, and RES Canada.

Hong Kong Energy takes stake in 200MW Danjinghe Wind Power

Asian renewables firm Hong Kong Energy has acquired a stake in a 200MW wind farm based in Danjinghe. The company obtained the stake through a $10.1m investment in HKE Wind Power, giving Hong Kong Energy 25 per cent of the company and a 10 per cent equity interest in the wind farm.

Duke Energy commits $44m to develop Texas wind battery storage system

Fortune 500 utility company Duke Energy is to spend $44m on the design, manufacture and installation of energy storage batteries at one of its wind farms in Texas. The company received a $22m grant for the project from the US Department of Energy (DOE), and has promised to match it.
