Green Plains Renewable Energy deploys corn extraction technology at ethanol plants

22 July 2010

green plains technology US-based ethanol producer Green Plains Renewable Energy will deploy corn oil extraction technology at its six ethanol plants, with an expected total cost of $18m.

Anticipating the project will enhance operating income by $15m to $19m per year, Green Plains expects to complete the technology deployment by the end of the first quarter of 2011.

‘Our objective is to continue to diversify our cash flows and to de-risk our overall platform,’ said Todd Becker, president and CEO of Green Plains.

‘This project allows us to realise additional income streams from value-added co-products. The production of 75 million to 90 million pounds of corn oil per year will generate substantial recurring free cash flows and excellent returns on invested capital.’

Ethanol plant construction specialist ICM has been awarded turn-key installation contracts at five of Green Plains six plants.

Green Plains has entered into agreement with GS CleanTech, a subsidiary of GreenShift Corporation, to utilise its patents and pending patents.
