Renewable oil company Solazyme has appointed Michael Golembieski to its management team as senior vice president and general manager responsible for growing Solazyme’s feed ingredient business for renewable oils, purified microalgae, and microalgae extracts.
‘Mike brings decades of strategy and business development experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and specialty chemicals markets. His prior involvement with such household names as Splenda Sucralose demonstrates that he will undoubtedly be an asset to our team as we build our renewable food products business,’ said Jonathan Wolfson, CEO of Solazyme.
Golembieski led strategy and business development for the Splenda Sucralose ingredient business of Tate & Lyle. He has spent more than 30 years in finance, business and strategy development, initiating and managing acquisitions ranging from $10m to $100m in total revenue.
Prior to working in the Splenda Sucralose division of Tate & Lyle, Golembieski spent four years at antiviral and technology licensing company Apath as the vice president of finance and business development, and 21 years at Mallinckrodt in business and strategy development for the company’s medical imaging and respiratory product areas.
Founded in 2003 and headquartered in San Francisco, Solazyme is a renewable oil and bioproducts company, specialising in algal biotechnology. Solazyme’s investors among others include Braemar Energy Ventures, Harris & Harris Group, Lightspeed VenturePartners, The Roda Group, and VantagePoint Venture Partners.
