Waste management group Biffa has put its landfill gas business up for sale at a price of £350m, according to reports.
The money raised will be used to fund the build of advanced recycling plants across the UK, according to a report in the Financial Times.
The company’s website, which carries the tag The Power behind Waste, said its strategy is based on transforming Biffa from a landfill operator and waste collection business to an energy-from-waste business.
It said it will achieve this strategy by focusing on technology and energy production while remaining active in recycling.
With a total capacity of 100MW, Biffa is the UK’s second-largest landfill gas generator after Infinis, the news service said.
