Element Partners, a clean technology growth equity firm based in the US city of Philadelphia, has appointed Sujit Banerjee as managing director.

‘Sujit joined Element as an operating partner last year and we are delighted to announce that he has now joined our partnership full-time,’ said Element managing partner David Lincoln. ‘We have worked with Sujit as a co-investor over the course of the last nine years, and he has repeatedly demonstrated exceptional capabilities and instincts as an investor. He has been an invaluable resource to us over the years, and we are confident that his strong technical background will complement our investment capabilities.’

Banerjee brings over ten years of investment experience to Element, where he co-sponsored investment initiatives in Deeya Energy and Petra Solar. He will lead Element’s efforts in power storage, semiconductors and power electronics as well as expand Element’s efforts in photovoltaics, said the firm.

Currently on the board of directors of both Deeya Energy and Petra Solar, Banerjee stepped in as acting COO for Deeya where he is credited with leading the company’s go-to-market strategy in India, said the firm.

Prior to joining Element, he was a partner with BlueRun Ventures where he founded their clean technology practice and India office. In addition to leading BlueRun’s investments in Petra and Deeya, his other investments included Slicex, Cyoptics, Magsil, Nexplanar, and Sasken. Prior to BlueRun, he was a principal with TL Ventures where he led investments in pre-IPO companies Atrenta and Sonics. Banerjee’s experience also includes investment banking with Merrill Lynch, management consulting for several companies in the semiconductor industry, and working as an engineer with Synoptics Communications.

Element Partners invests in established high growth companies in the energy and clean technology markets. Since 1995, the firm has managed over $1.2bn in capital commitments spanning six investment partnerships focused on profitably growing energy and environmental related businesses.
