UK climate economist attacks climate change sceptics
8th December 2009
British climate economist Nicholas Stern has attacked climate change sceptics, saying that they are ‘confused’. The author of a British government report on global warming criticised hackers who published stolen climate research unit documents claiming data had been manipulated, for obscuring the climate debate.
‘It has created confusion and confusion never helps scientific discussions,’ said Stern. ‘If it were to dissolve in disarray it would not be easy to put this momentum back together again,’ he added.
Stern said the confusion comes at a time when a strategy to combat climate change could be agreed on at the Copenhagen climate conference. He said that without an agreement on climate change, by the end of 2099 temperatures across the globe could increase by five degrees celsius.
