Foresight Group expands environmental investment team

13 October 2009

Independent alternative asset manager Foresight Group has appointed James Samworth as investment manager of its environmental investment team.

Samworth will provide support to the firm’s environmental portfolio and is based in the company’s Sevenoaks office.

Samworth is a Cambridge graduate with an MBA from London Business School. He spent 10 years at Corus in operations management and leading key commercial accounts supplying steel construction and manufactured goods to customers. He has investment experience within banking and private equity in the environmental, natural resources and industrial sectors, gained at Deutsche Bank, Lyceum Capital Partners and Next Wave Ventures.

Andrew Page, partner at Foresight, said, ‘As the creation of a low carbon economy moves up the political and public agenda, investment opportunities in the sector are expanding. The fight against climate change, increasing demand for energy, growing energy security concerns and the use of waste as a resource mean that the long term prospects for the environmental sector are very strong. ‘

He added, ‘James’ experience will further strengthen a team which already has significant leadership experience in the process and waste management industries in technical and commercial roles.’

Foresight manages approximately £200m across a number of funds, including limited partnerships, Enterprise Investment Schemes and Venture Capital Trusts. Foresight focuses primarily on investments in unquoted UK and European companies

Investments made by Foresight in the environmental infrastructure sector have included tyre recycling company Crumb Rubber, waste plastic bottle recycler Closed Loop Recycling, food waste recycling company Vertal and biomass electricity generator O-Gen UK.
