The hedge fund management team of international renewable energy-focused asset management group I2BF, which has over $100m worth of assets under management, has been taken over by Ilya Golubovich, I2BF founding partner and the firm’s quantitative research team, led by Denis Chigirev.
Irakli Menabde and Nicholas Merzeau, who founded the I2BF Arbat Clean Technology Fund in 2008 with Golubovich, are departing to run their own asset management company, M2 Capital Partners, which will have a broad focus for multiple investment products.
Golubovich said, ‘Unfortunately, we could not accommodate their other investment aims within our firm’s focused mandate based around the renewable energy and cleantech sector. We wish M2 the best of luck in all its endeavours and I can say with certainty that some form of collaboration between I2BF and M2 will continue in the future.’
The company said it will continue to build an international team of portfolio managers across its three main offices in London, Moscow and Dubai.
In recent months, Chigirev and his team have been developing new trading strategies based on the existing renewable energy-focused quantitative model of the I2BF Arbat Clean Technology Fund.
Its new changes to the strategy and model will ensure the fund is well-placed to continue performance growth and bring further excellent returns to investors, said I2BF.
Since its launch in November 2008, the I2BF Arbat Clean Technology Fund has returned in excess of 36 per cent with an investment methodology it said combines quantitative, thematic and fundamental disciplines. In this time, the fund’s assets under management have grown from $6m to around $25m.
