GE invests in US energy management firm Tendril

GE Energy Financial Services has made an investment into Tendril, a Colorado headquartered developer of smart grid technology. The investment deepens Tendril’s relationship with GE, following the July announcement that the company’s Tendril Residential Management Ecosystem (TREE) technology would be integrated to work with GE’s driers, refrigerators, washing machines and other appliances.

The TREE system is designed to help utilities operate more efficiently, increasing energy efficiency and to aid compliance with new regulatory requirements. The enterprise-class platform provides a secure, end-to-end, standards-based energy management system that allows customers to monitor and control their energy consumption. TREE provides utilities with demand response, energy efficiency and variable pricing, along with a platform for future applications such as, distributed generation management and vehicle-to-grid technology.

The investment follows Tendril’s June Series C fundraising, which attracted $30m of investment, led by VantagePoint Venture Partners and joined by Good Energies.
