Robeco launches €250m fund targeting responsible investments

Asset management firm Robeco has launched a private equity fund of funds targeting responsible investments. The fund has a target of €250m.

The investment portfolio of the Fund will be diversified across 20-30 private equity funds. The Fund will also be diversified by geography, investment stage, industry sector, companies and vintage years.

The fund will integrate responsibility characteristics into the Fund’s private equity investment strategy and operations, the firm said.

The responsible investment strategy will be centred around engagement, through which private equity funds managers are stimulated to improve the Environmental, Social and Governance EESG) performance of their portfolio companies. It is the successor to the €200m 2004 Robeco Sustainable Private Equity fund.

Ad van den Ouweland, managing partner, Robeco Private Equity, said, ‘The private equity sector is joining the global trend towards responsible investing. We believe that ESG investing and private equity are perfectly aligned, together contributing to the ultimate long-term success of portfolio companies.’

Robeco will act as cornerstone investor, by committing 15 per cent of the fund size, up to a maximum amount of €35m.
