US smart grid infrastructure company SmartSynch and security company AuthenTec have partnered to provide an additional layer of fortification to SmartSynch’s infrastructure solutions.
SmartSynch has selected AuthenTec’s carrier-grade network security solution, the QuickSec IPsec toolkit, to provide standards-compliant authentication, confidentiality and data integrity for its smart grid solutions.
‘The future of energy in the US depends upon smart grid technology, and as such the infrastructure must be extremely robust and secure against hackers,’ said Stephen Johnston, CEO of SmartSynch. ‘By working with embedded security leader AuthenTec, SmartSynch’s solutions will be further optimised to securely and reliably deliver critical smart grid data over public wireless networks – thereby enabling quicker, easier, and more scalable deployments while raising the return on resources for utilities.’
‘As a critical infrastructure, the nation’s energy grid must be secure in order to avoid threats to human safety and serious economic losses,’ said Dr Simon Blake-Wilson, vice president of Embedded Security Solutions at AuthenTec.
He added that the optimisation of AuthenTec’s QuickSec IPsec toolkit for SmartSynch’s smart grid infrastructure solutions will provide its customers with an easy to deploy IPsec security solution.
SmartSynch has provided IP communicating end-to-end smart grid solutions utilising public wireless networks for the utility industry since 2000.
