Swiss cleantech company Pure Klimaschutz receives cash injection following IPO

15 December 2009

Cleantech Invest’s portfolio company Pure Klimaschutz has received a CHF1.3m (£0.77m) following its recent IPO on the Berne Stock Exchange.

The capital increase, in which Berne and Frankfurt stock exchange listed venture capital fund Cleantech Invest also participated, was 30 per cent higher than anticipated and sees several investors including a well-known Swiss investor group become shareholders of the business.

Pure Klimaschutz, which went public in November at the Berne stock exchange, said that it intends to use the capital to continue financing innovative carbon offset projects in South East Asia and South Africa.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the company is looking to raise a further CHF10m (£5.91m) as a future target.

As a second generation carbon player, the company concentrates on specifically targeted greenhouse gas reduction sectors such as waste water treatment, energy efficiency and waste heat recycling.

‘The successful capital injection into Pure Klimaschutz shows that innovative Carbon businesses continue to attract capital – in a year that has seen very little new investment in carbon funds,’ said Jürgen Habichler, president of the board of directors of Cleantech Invest.

Richard Kuckelkorn, CEO of Pure Klimaschutz, said, ‘We are very pleased with the capital increase subsequent to our IPO. The fact that existing shareholders such as Cleantech Invest have participated in this capital increase, can be considered an endorsement of our strategy. We strongly believe in the significant growth potential of the global carbon market especially post 2012.’

Headquartered in St Gallen, Switzerland, Cleantech Invest focuses exclusively on clean technology, investing in established and growing companies in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental and climate protection in the German-speaking region. Mountain Cleantech, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, is the investment advisor of Cleantech Invest, which was founded in 2007.
