US rechargeable battery developer International Battery passes UN testing

21 April 2010

US rechargeable battery developer International Battery has been awarded International Organisations of Standards certification as its large-format 160Ah iron phosphate lithium-ion battery cells have passed UN Transportation Testing.

The ISO 9000 category, which the company has been certified under, is an internationally renowned reference for quality management requirements in business-to-business dealings.

‘ISO certification confirms to our customers, our investors and ourselves that the processes we use and continue to improve upon lead to reliable, repeatable, high-quality products,’ said Dr Ake Almgren, president and CEO, International Battery.

International Battery’s large format lithium-ion batteries completed and passed UN certification with tests including altitude simulation, thermal testing, vibration, shock, external short circuit, impact, overcharge and forced discharge testing.

The company said testing of the remainder of International Battery’s batteries is expected to be completed within the next three months.

‘By passing these UN tests, International Battery has proven that the quality and safety of our lithium ion battery cells meet the safety requirements for transportation,’ said Almgren.

Headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, International Battery is a manufacturer, designer and developer of large-format lithium-ion rechargeable cells and batteries for use in transportation, industrial, electric utility, smart grid and military applications.
