Canadian energy-focused private equity firm KERN Energy Partners raising third fund

Energy-focused private equity firm KERN Energy Partners, has received a commitment of $500,000 into its third fund, KERN Energy Partners III, from Canadian private equity investor Kensington Capital.

KERN Partners is based in Calgary, Canada, and focuses on investments in the oil and gas, energy infrastructure, energy technology and the oil and gas service sector.

Portfolio companies include solar technology company Ausra.

In 2003, KERN closed its first fund, KERN Energy Partners I Fund on $230m, while KERN Energy Partners II Fund closed in 2006 on $450m. The firm is currently raising funds for its third fund, KERN Energy Partners III Fund. The firm anticipates holding a first closing this month, according to a statement.
