LDK Solar and SAEM team up to build solar PV plants in Italy

LDK Solar, a manufacturer of solar wafers, has signed an agreement with SAEM, an integrator within the photovoltaic sector, to build five 1MW photovoltaic plants in Italy.

Construction on the plants is expected to commence in July 2009 and be completed by November 2009. LDK Solar will supply the wafers while SAEM will provide engineering, procurement and construction services.

‘We are very eager to increase LDK Solar’s presence in Italy,’ said Xiaofeng Peng, CEO of LDK Solar. ‘The Italian PV market continues one of the most interesting in Europe and is forecasted to grow significantly over the next three years. Our agreement with SAEM is another noteworthy achievement for us as we work to strengthen our position in the PV power plants market in Europe and continue to build our foundation to capture future opportunities.’

   According to PVinsights, http://www.pvinsights.com, solar price will drop down further. solar electricity will probably hit grid parity in Italy in 2010. PVinsights believe that more and more solar project will show up in 2010 due to lower solar price.
