NV Energy files plan with Public Utilities Commission of Nevada for renewable energy schemes

NV Energy, a Las Vegas-based electricity holding company, has filed an Integrated Resource plan with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada for a number of renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives in the company’s southern territory.

‘This resource plan primarily focuses on two key components of our company’s three-part strategy - expanding the use of renewable resources and increasing our energy efficiency and conservation programmes,’ said Michael Yackira, president and CEO of NV Energy. ‘Our priority in this filing is to provide our customers with access to the abundant natural resources available throughout Nevada and to further programmes that will help reduce energy usage and its impact on utility bills and the environment.’

The company’s initiatives include the construction of a 500kV transmissions line, new energy efficiency and conservation programmes and two solar power purchase agreements.

NV Energy has filed an Integrated Resource plan for each utility every three years since the Nevada Legislature in 1983. The plan is based on customer load projections, and includes programmes to reduce energy consumption, and develop sites for new generation and transmission in order to meet the projected demand.
