Petra Solar’s SunWave modules begin to be installed on world’s largest solar project

14 September 2009

Solar company Petra Solar has begun distribution of its SunWave solar photovoltaic modules that are to be used in the construction of the world’s largest solar electric project in New Jersey, US.

The 200,000 SunWave modules, embedded with power management and communications systems, have been shipped to purchaser PSE&G to be installed on poles in its service territory, which includes New Jersey’s six largest cities and 300 rural and suburban communities.

Shihab Kuran, Petra Solar president and CEO, said, ‘Petra Solar’s solar photovoltaic solutions enable utilities to maximise the value of their existing resources in innovative ways. With Petra Solar’s SunWave technology, they use existing utility poles to host solar units, creating a distributed system of power generation throughout their service area. We are very gratified that our business interests line up directly with the public’s interest in producing clean energy and green jobs.’

The company will ship 150 units of SunWave this week having delivered 50 units last week, with 1,500 units expected to be delivered per month by the end of the year.

In addition to securing the PSE&G contract last month, Petra Solar has been awarded funding under New Jersey’s Clean Energy Manufacturing Fund and the US Department of Energy awarded it a multi-million SEGIS contract to develop power management and control technologies with the aim of enabling a higher penetration of distributed solar in the electric grid.
