REC Solar signs 1.7MW solar contract with Veterans Affairs hospitals

30 November 2009

US solar installer REC Solar has signed an agreement to build 1.7MW of solar power systems on federal Veterans Affairs hospitals in California, Arizona and Nevada.

The solar systems are due to be completed at the end of spring in 2010 and are expected to create over 60 jobs during construction.

‘We are pleased and honoured to work with the Veterans Affairs hospitals in their effort to increase the use of renewable energy in achieving their agency-wide goals,’ said Angiolo Laviziano, CEO of REC Solar.

‘Today, solar photovoltaic technology is competitively-priced for commercial and government applications. It’s fast to install, and reliably delivers clean power, particularly during peak demand hours when the electricity rates are the most expensive,’ Laviziano added.

The projects generate approximately 2.1MWh of electricity per year, using REC Group panels. The photovoltaic systems are due to be installed in Veterans Affairs medical centres in California, Arizona and Nevada. The systems utilise over 7,000 mounted REC Group modules.

Solar power provider REC Solar specialises in grid-tied residential, commercial, government and utility installations. The company has over a dozen offices throughout Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon and New Jersey.
